Please Touch Museum Logo

overview
The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia is a children's museum where visitors can interact with exhibits. For this project, I used Adobe Illustrator to redesign the museum's logo and create brand guidelines to boost its presence as well as Adobe After Effects to make a logo animation. My main goal was to capture a playful, child-like hand to highlight the unique hands-on experience.
Process
To create a logo for the please touch museum I sketched several abstract hand symbols to find a symbol that would appeal to both children and their families. I approached this by conducting thorough research on the museum’s current branding and audience. This project lead to a website design using these guidelines that you can view below.

identity system:

The logo uses primary colors to evoke creativity, joy, and exploration at the Please Touch Museum. Red, blue, and yellow symbolize imagination and growth, reflecting the museum's dynamic, interactive experiences. Yellow is used in the word "touch" to call attention to what makes the museum unique. For typography, Chaloops is used for the logo to convey a playful and engaging tone, while Gotham is chosen for headers and body text for its clean, modern readability. This combination ensures a vibrant and approachable visual identity that supports both the museum’s lively atmosphere and clear communication.

premliminary/vector sketches:

For the sketching phase, I attempted to keep the process loss and fun, creating icons that convey a hand to symbolize the ability to touch and interact with the museum's exhibits.

The logo animation opens with the brand’s cloud shape bursting, revealing a bouncing ball that brings each letter out as they playfully "touch" one another into place into place. This animation aims to convey the museum's engaging and interactive spirit.
