color coded

For my senior thesis, I created Color Coded, a brand centered on the idea that color functions as a language. The project explores how color is seen, felt, and interpreted across media, culture and emotion. At its core, the platform operates as an editorial-style experience, featuring stories that analyze color in pop culture, current media, and everyday life, supported by interactive elements like quizzes and daily color insights.

APPLICATIONS

LOGO

The Color Coded logo is designed to represent the full spectrum of color through a single, continuous form. The gradient transitions from red to blue, creating the impression of the broader color family and suggesting the entire color wheel. The combined “C” and “O” form an infinity-like shape inspired by a color wheel, symbolizing that color is interconnected and endlessly interpreted.

VISUAL IDENTITY
BEHIND THE SCENES

This project allowed me to explore ideas more freely and embrace an iterative process. I began by sketching ways to visualize color theory, color wheels, and the rainbow without overwhelming the viewer. Early explorations included the infinity-inspired “CO” logo mark, which remained a key part of the final identity. To help communicate my motion concepts, I storyboarded the animation in Procreate. Surprisingly, the final animation stayed very close to those original sketches, making the process a valuable exercise in visualizing and presenting motion ideas.

TAKEAWAYS

This project challenged me to turn my long-standing interest in color psychology into a fully realized brand system. I set out to use the entire color spectrum while keeping the identity cohesive and not overwhelming to viewers. I especially strengthened my skills in color application and copywriting, and I’m proud of how the concept evolved into a campaign built around the idea that color speaks.
